I'm prepering to instal OPN and will eventually have to translate it to my mother tongue (if the OPN will work fine, but I'm optimistic )

Hi,
very good news to hear you want to translate

Be aware there are very strong activities in the development of OPN. Itīs very important for you to always have an up to date OPN version. We use SVN http://subversion.tigris.org/ for this purpose. You can find the OPN SVN at https://svn.openphpnuke.info/
Please use always the trunk. Update often (every day). If you are new to SVN, I can assist you to install it .

There are a lot of language files in OPN. Thatīs because OPN is a full modular CMS. Donīt be afraid of these many files A lot of them a very small.
All the english language files are named lang-english.php. They have all the same name but a different location in the directory tree!

Some of us use the program Beyond Compare to handle the files
http://www.scootersoftware.com/

Use a php editor, open the lang-english.php and save it as lang-polish.php. Now translate the english text between the brackets. Save the file. After ending your translation session export all modified polish language files with the directory structure , compress it and send it to the developers as soon as possible. The directory structure begins at trunk\openphpnuke\html\......
Try to send it to
stefan@openphpnuke.info
stefan will add your files asap to SVN.

Here I have a question, that came to me yesterday: Can I use polish coding:
ISO-8859-2? I'd prefer to use polish special letters (ążśźęć󳥯ŚŹĘĆÓŁ).

And if you coul tell me if the installer will add Polish automaticly when finds lang-polish.php files, or do I have to change something to test my translation? I've translated install script and would like to test it finally

Well, from my point of view the letters on my previous post look ok... On the other hand, at the install page of OPN (I didn't go further without your opinion on the char set), IE recognizes the page as coded in "ISO(Western Europe)". If changed to view in "ISO(Central Europe)" the page looks fine.

So I think, that if:
1) there is a declaration of the char set in the page <meta> tags, there is little to do.

2) On the other hand, if there is no char set declaration, the default install language (German) is recognised by the browser, so it starts to use "ISO (Western Europe)" char set to display the page. And so if the Polish is used in the install and is set as a default language, it will be then (in the installed OPN) recognized and the user's borowser's will use "ISO (Cental Europe)" char set = no problem

I hope this info will help you

I've just went throug some pages in the install (I don't know why I haven't done it before), and when advencing to 2nd page the char set is set back to "ISO (Western Europe)", so a guess we're having case 1) :(

My idea is to add the char set declaration to the language file as a variable, but you're doing the programing, I'm just learning the php

In the next version of OPN you can select the following Charsets for the Website and the Emails:
  • ISO-8859-1 to ISO-8859-16
  • UTF-8
  • KOI8-R
  • KOI8-U

Maybe we add the windows-12XX charsets later too.
